Matt McClure Named Arkansas Superintendent of the Year
Dr. Matt McClure, Superintendent, with Cross County School District has been awarded the 2010 Arkansas Superintendent of the Year Award. The award was presented by Mike Mertens, Interim Executive Director for the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, in a surprise ceremony on November 11th at Kelly’s Restaurant in Wynne. Established in 1987 and presented annually by the Arkansas Association of School Administrators, the award recognizes chief school administrators who exemplify excellence and achievement in educational leadership.
Dr. Tom Kimbrell, ADE Commissioner of Education, who was in attendance for the presentation, stated, “Dr. McClure is the youngest superintendent to have received this prestigious award.” Kimbrell went on to say, “The award is a selection of one superintendent in the state of Arkansas for the work they do for not only their district but also throughout the state. This award, not only highlights Cross County School District, but also the state of Arkansas at the national level. His work has been recognized at the Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, and across the state with the majority of the colleagues. He’s brought new ideas as to how technology can be used with today’s kids.”
In his years as an educator, McClure has served as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and adjunct professor at Harding, Arkansas State, and Arkansas Tech Universities. He has served as superintendent of the Cross County District since 2006.
Notables in attendance, who were past winners of the award: Andrew Tolbert of Warren, Tony Wood of Searcy, Dr. Frank Holman of Lincoln, Dr. Jerry Guess of Camden Fairview, Albert Brown, retired superintendent now with JBHM, Inc., and Frank Anthony of Pine Bluff.
Dr. McClure will represent the state of Arkansas at the American Association of School Administrators Conference in Phoenix, Arizona in February. Dr. McClure said, “His success is due to the hard work of his teachers, office staff, administrators and the support of the school board.”
